Chargers play the first game
The Chargers, then in the AFL, played the first game at the stadium on August 20, 1967. It opened as San Diego Stadium at a cost of $27.75 million. The Padres of the Pacific Coast League arrived in 1968, and the major-league Padres in 1969.
