Leafs lose the opener
Maple Leaf Gardens opened on November 12, 1931, and the Leafs lost 2–1 to Chicago. Conn Smythe had wanted a larger building than the Mutual Street arena. The Leafs played here until 1999 and won 11 Stanley Cups from 1932 to 1967.
