Boxing opens the Garden
The first event, on November 17, 1928, was a boxing card headlined by Boston fighter Dick Finnegan's win over Andre Routis. The building opened as Boston Madison Square Garden and was later shortened to Boston Garden. The Bruins played there from 1928 to 1995, and the Celtics from 1946 to 1995.

Location
- Stay near Fenway / Kenmore. Best walkability to Fenway Park; easy Green Line hops toward downtown.
- Back Bay or downtown. Strong transit base for TD Garden (North Station) and day trips; rideshare to Gillette is still a haul.
