Dome opens for the Spurs and a football bid
The Alamodome opened on May 15, 1993, after construction that cost $186 million. The city wanted more convention traffic, a professional football franchise, and a larger home for the Spurs. The Spurs played there from 1993 to 2002, including the 1999 championship season against the Knicks.
